Paradise Pai

Came to see a fire show and paid 200 baht at the door, no big deal. I really enjoyed the atmosphere but noticed that only foreigners were working, which seemed strange. I did see one Thai guy working in the back, not one of the performers where thai, and later I realized that tourists come during the daytime to do workshops with “international” (other tourists) performers. The show is the result of these workshops, put on by tourists who attended the workshops. Again, there was no presence of any Thai people, just foreigners selling drinks and 7-Eleven items for double the usual price. The show was entertaining, and I could see some of the performers knew what they were doing, which kept me engaged. However, what prevented me from giving this place five stars was the way, at the end, the tourists—just like us, on holiday—asked for tips for their workshop performances. Yes, they were entertaining, but by no means a professional show. There were a few good acts, including a stilt walker and a pretty funny stand-up act. But the fire show and circus skills, given the knowledge from a one-day workshop, were a bit lacking. Having about 30 people walking around with tip bowls made me feel uncomfortable and slightly spoiled what was otherwise fun just minutes earlier. I believe involving the local community in such events is essential and should be prioritized over foreigners selling 7-Eleven toasties. Overall, it was fun, but buying a ticket was one thing, and then demanding I give more than 100 baht to each performer was crazy and really spoiled the night for us.

I went for the fire show and was absolutely mesmerized by all the incredible talent. Very diverse performers with various skills levels which is very inspiring to witness as a performer myself.

The food was killer, the back kitchen is run by an 18 year old and a couple of his friends and let me tell you, they can COOK.
