Monkey Bar/Restaurant Korat

A flying visit to Korat. Tempted by this western style bar for a late lunch and to quench my thirst after a 5 hour car journey. Well stocked bar but I couldn’t see anything on tap. Pool table and live music some nights. At this time of day (around 2pm) I was initially the only customer. Standard menu, with a variety of western and Thai dishes. Prices for a small San Miguel Lite were 90 baht. Burger was 220 baht. Burger seemed small, but was tasty. Good selection of condiments. If I was around later it would have been interesting to see if the place and atmosphere picked up a little. Update 20 November: return visit to Korat on the way back to Nong Bua Lamphu. Later visit than before, approx 6pm. Lots more customers. Music on point. Toasted Bacon and Brie Panini to soak up the Finsbury Wild Strawberry Gin, which was very refreshing. All in all a better experience and atmosphere. Recommended for a visit or two or three. Upgraded my initial markings accordingly.

3 Positive Points: 3 screens for sports with a pool table, location, and the waitresses are available... There were 7 of us, and between the first course and the last, an hour passed. The food is passable, at Top Market or Gourmet, because pizza it's a frozen style, piece of meat low quality...just fish and chips not cheap is correct, you'll eat better and cheaper. You'll have the chance to leave with some of the food, since your clothes and hair will smell of frying, it's a funny souvenir. The waitresses are available but really not cheerful 😂 No concert that evening, but a good playlist on the laptop with varied music from the 80s to the 2000s. The owner came by, staying at the bar, not even bothering to come and greet his guests and ask if they were having a good evening. In short, it's a real shame because we will probably not try it anymore

I really don’t get the negative reviews about the staff at The Monkey Bar. My Thai wife and I have been here 6-7 times and they have always been great. The food is always excellent, whether it’s me ordering western style food or her Thai food. The wait staff is usually quick to come to our table and always there if we need a fresh drink or whatever. And if you want to play a game of pool with them and their not to busy they are always up for that as well. Sometimes the food might take awhile but I assume because it’s being cooked to order. We love the place and will continue to enjoy the friendly staff and the great food. I guess some people just can’t be pleased.

food was served soooo slow today - on top of that, to make it worse, when I asked a chubby long hair waitress she replied with an attitude 👎👎 we didn't bother to ask her anything else, just wait and wait and wait for the food. After all food was served - still missing pizza which took ages just for a pizza - served last.

Walkable from old town or nearby hotels. Friendly staff, very nice bar. Good prices including specials and happy hours. Sport on TV, lots of choice of beer & spirits & wine. Plenty of food to choose from Inc full English breakfast, burgers, pizza & Thai. Pool table, live music, WiFi available. Enjoy this great bar 10am til 11pm+ 👍🏼
