To the guys thinking about the freelancer route in Bangkok I got burned by confusion my first night. Started at a gogo on Sukhumvit around 11, walked over to Nana Hotel, ended up at a soi-side bar where the girl said one rate, then the freelancer at the hotel asked for a higher takeout; music was loud, lights cheap, felt like a bait-and-switch. Last trip I knew the deal (bar fine, lady drinks, short time options) but tonight the hustles blended fair rates, pricey add-ons, and a couple of freelancers who expected extra cash after we left the bar.
Tip: always confirm the full price before leaving the bar ask the girl and the freelancer the same number, and if it’s fuzzy walk away; carry small odds-and-ends cash, tell the driver the soi after the 7-11, and don’t be shy to bail if the story changes. It was annoying but not tragic, just learn quick and keep it simple, u'll save time and hassle...
