Wrong Way Cafe

Good atmosphere, friendly stuff, good food, cheap drinks. Lots of farang every weekend. Absolutely recommended.

This is not a cafe. It's a bar that only sells alcohol, booze, liquor for drunks...you know. My wife asked me to wait for her in a cafe. So I looked up "nearest cafe" on Google. I found Wrong Way Cafe and walked there. To my horror, this wasn't a cafe. It was an empty booze bar with one single-page menu with hard liquor drinks for sale. When I walked inside and asked whether I could order an iced coffee, I was met with incredulous looks. I was told: "You're looking for a coffee shop". When I told her that a "cafe" was a coffee shop, she didn't know what to say. Cafe comes from Kaffee which means coffee. A "cafe" is a place where you buy coffee and cake. Please rename this booze bar to Wrong Way Bar to make it clear what you are! A booze bar!

Addendum 2.11.2025: the owner replied to my review and made two incorrect claims: the owner states: "I actually remember you! You didn’t even look at our food menu last time". The bar was empty except for two female Asians. At some stage, a Caucasian male walked through the bar but we did not interact. I'd never been there before. Before entering the bar, I did in fact look at the one-page menu on the pedestal in front of the bar. If I remember correctly, there was no mention of food or coffee. It only listed various types of alcoholic beverages. When I walked into the bar, one of the females approached me. When I asked for an iced coffee, or any sort of coffee, she told me clearly that they did not sell coffee - only alcohol. Since staff denied selling coffee, I'm not sure what the owner is on about. I was not offered a menu to look at. We are back to square one. Since the circumstances have changed over a 20-year period, it's time to rename it to Wrong Way Bar as I was denied a coffee.

Tucked away in Ubon Ratchathani, The Wrong Way Cafe is an absolute gem. Their Sunday roast is hands down one of the best I’ve had outside of the UK—crispy roast potatoes, perfectly boiled veg, rich homemade gravy, and proper Yorkshire puddings. Bonus points for offering duck as an option—juicy, tender, and cooked to perfection.

Just two days ago, I had the bangers and mash. The sausages? Homemade and full of flavour, like something straight from a village butcher back home. Smooth mash, lashings of gravy, and a comforting, nostalgic hit I didn’t expect to find in this off-the-track little spot.

If you miss real British comfort food done right, this place is a must.

Quite a nice bar on a quiet road not to many people there when we visited.
The owner was very pleasant polite and chatty.
I found Ubon does not have a bustling nightlife like some other big cities in Thailand but there are a few small places.
