Heading to Patong tonight, still torn on whether to stay near Bangla Road for nightlife convenience or stay in Kata for quieter evenings while still hitting up a few bars and massage spots. Taking a late flight arriving tonight. Last time I stayed near Walking Street in Patong, after 10pm it was packed, the bars with their push shows and dance clubs were lively, but the massage parlors and those soapy and slippery oil massage places felt overpriced. Got ripped off once too, really annoying. Kata I hear the beach is quiet at night, good for nighttime views or relaxing with a Thai massage, but is it too much hassle to get from Kata to the Patong action? How safe and easy is the ride back? Veterans, any practical route and timing advice?
I want to be able to hit clubs, catch shows, and pop into a decent value massage place for a soapy or slippery oil session, ideally somewhere where bars and street action are not far from the door. Budget is not the main concern but I don't want to get fleeced. Anyone stayed in Patong or Kata recently? Share the walking or driving time from your hotel to Bangla Road and the main massage spots, which roads are well-lit and easy to find transport back, or any recommended areas that are quieter but still convenient for the darker side of the nightlife?
Also an awkward question, last time in Patong a girl added charges at checkout claiming it was a package deal. As a newcomer I couldn't do the math fast enough. Any tips on how to handle that smoothly without it getting embarrassing? Not talking about calling the cops, just want veteran-level tactics like paying a deposit first, asking for a receipt, bringing a friend who speaks Chinese or English, or which shops are more likely to pull that kind of thing. Just some tips please, thanks...
