So update on my situation... I was out late last night, finished up at a gogo bar on Walking Street, and needed to get back to my hotel around 2am. I walked over to the main road, and to my surprise, the baht buses were still running. I caught one just a few minutes after I got there.

The driver was friendly, and it felt pretty safe even at that hour. Just be prepared that they might only make stops at major areas, so you might have to walk a bit once you get off. It’s nice to know the baht bus service doesn't completely shut down at night!
